First performance on December 25, 1723; figural Magnificat performances were customary in Leipzig on high feast days, including the three feasts of Mary during the Vespers service; during Christmas (since Samuel Calvisius) with four Laudes inserted into the Magnificat. Movement D is incompletely preserved but can be approximately reconstructed from its parody, BWV 110/5
