First performance on May 13, 1731, revised version in C major (concert pitch). Sequence of movements is like BWV 172.2, but without movement 7 and without the transverse flute. Instrumentation for movement 5: Soprano, Alto, Oboe, obligato Violoncello or obligato organ. Subsequent performance after 1750 by W. F. Bach in Halle (revised original parts) and possibly by C. P. E. Bach in Hamburg (copy of the score)
