Die Erstaufführung dieser Kantate fand im Frühgottesdienst der Nikolaikirche mit Predigt von Salomon Deyling, und am gleichen Tag im Vespergottesdienst der Thomaskirche statt, hier mit Predigt von Johann Gottlob Carpzov.

G. C. Lehms. Movement 1 is based on Psalm 126, verses 2–3. Movement 3 is from Jeremiah 10, verse 6. Movement 5 is from Luke 2, verse 14. Movement 7 is based on the hymn Wir Christenleut by C. Füger from the year 1592, stanza 5. The printed text can be found in a publication by Lehms from the year 1711, volume I, on page 5
