• The attribution of the continuo rules to Johann Sebastian Bach is likely due to the provenance of the copy (by C. F. Richter, St. Thomas scholar 1741-1748 and C. A. Thieme, St. Thomas scholar 1735-1745).
  
  They are designed in three parts (see B-Bc 27224 MSM):
  - 1. <i>Kurtzer Unterricht von den so genannten General Bass</i> (fol. 2r)
  - 2. <i>Gründlicher Unterricht des General-Basses</i> (fol. 2a v; based on the first part by F. E. Niedt, "Musicalische Handleitung oder Gründlicher Unterricht", Hamburg 1700, second edition 1710)
  - 3. <i>Grund Sätze zum Enquatre Spielen</i> (fol. 17r).

• The copy (B-Bc: 27224 MSM) is probably by C. F. Richter (see GB-Lbl: Add. MS. 32072, there the possessor's note says CFRichter) and from the middle of the 18th century. The title page (by C. A. Thieme?) contains the following informations: <i>Des | Königl. Hoff- Compositeurs und Capellmeisters ingleichen | Directoris Musices wie auch Cantoris der Thomas-Schule | Herrn Johann Sebastian Bach | zu Leipzig |Vorschriften und Grundsätze zum vierstimmigen | spielen des General-Bass oder Accompagne- | ment. | für | seine Scholaren in der Music. | 1738.</i> (Facsimile, 1994)
