First performance in Pomßen (near Leipzig), February 6, 1727, at a memorial service for J.C. von Ponickau. The version is preserved only through the text print; this also contains (as the second part following the sermon) a libretto by G. C. Lehms, see BWV 1136, which is signed with the name of Bach’s student C. G. Wecker, who likely directed the performance. The music for this funeral cantata has been preserved only through its later transformation into Mariae Reinigung, see BWV 157.2.
