Bemerkungen: Die Überlieferung des WK 2 gliedert sich in zwei Hauptüberlieferungsstränge: Fassung A (Londoner Originalhandschrift) und Fassung B (Abschrift von J. C. Altnickol in D-B). Daneben gilt es als sicher, dass zu allen Satzpaaren Frühfassungen, die J. S. Bach als Vorlage für die sog. Londonder Originalhandschrift dienten, existierten. Von diesen ist aber nur das Satzpaar in C autograph in der Londoner Quelle erhalten. Weitere Frühfassungen sind in Einzelabschriften von fremder Hand überliefert. Für einige Satzpaare sind außerdem noch Variantfassungen bekannt. Für spezielle Informationen zur Fassungsproblematik s. NBA V/6.2, KB und Dürr 1998.
