First performance on April 2, 1716, in the Weimar Castle Church, on the occasion of the memorial service for Prince Johann Ernst of Saxe-Weimar, who died on August 1, 1715. Bach's authorship is not evidenced by sources but is suggested due to the close relationship between Bach and Johann Ernst; Kapellmeister J. S. Drese (or the son standing in for him) is less likely to be the composer. An collective bill from the Jüngern Particulier Cammer of Duke Ernst August I might also relate to this: 45 [florins] 15 [groschen] Dem Consistorial Secretario Francken, [...] Concertmstr.
