Date of origin and date of first performance of this cantata are unknown; probably the cantata was written by J. S. Bach; the libretto was printed by G. C. Lehms in 1711. By that it is proved that the cantata was performed as the 2nd part of a lost funeral cantata for J. Christoph Ponickau an Feb. 6th 1727. Later it was reused in BWV 157.
