1722 First performance in 1722 in Zerbst on the occasion of the birthday of Prince Johann August of Anhalt-Zerbst, who, however, was not present in Zerbst on his birthday (July 29) (Schulze BJ 2004). According to the princely treasury accounts (Cammer-Rechnung), Bach received a fee of 10 Reichstalers in 1723 (Dem Herrn Capellmeister Back zu Cöthen vor eine Composition an Unsers gnädigen Landes Fürsten hohen Geburhts Tag […] [To Mr. Capellmeister Back in Cöthen for a composition on Our gracious sovereign’s high birthday [...]]; see Wäschke 1908/1909, page 634; see Dok. II Nr. 114). After the departure of the Zerbst Kapellmeister Johann Baptist Kuch in May 1722, Bach likely took over interim services in Zerbst until J. F. Fasch’s assumption of office in September of the same year.
