Date of origin, Work history: vor dem 29. August 1740
First performance on the occasion of the Leipzig Council election on August 29, 1740, in St. Nikolai (Description of the event’s proceedings in the text print Leipzig 1740; as indicated by Dok. II Nr. 452, Note II). Bach’s authorship is substantiated, among other things, by its parodic relationship to BWV 208.1/15 (see below).
