• Original sources are not passed down. The earliest source is from 1778 (after Bach's death). Perhaps it was originally dedicated to the Bach scholar Johann Gottfried Müthel (no family register passed down), who later used the mirror canon for another family register entry. The title of this copy in Johann Conrad Arnold's family register is: <i>Canon.
