The first performance likely took place on August 3, 1735, by the Bach Collegium Musicum for the name day of the Saxon Elector Friedrich August II (King August III of Poland): eine solenne Music bey einer Illumination im Zimmermannischen Garten vor dem Grimmischen Thore [a solemn music during an illumination in the Zimmermann Garden in front of the Grim Gate] (Leipziger Zeitungen, 3. August 1735; see Dok. II Nr. 368). Movement 1, 3, 5, 7–9 are parodies based on BWV 207.1. The autograph score of this parody template contains a short Marche, which could have also been used as an processional music for BWV 207.2, see BWV 1177
