Date of composition before 1726, possibly using Köthen templates; first evidenced performance in 1726/1727 (original parts writer; older text version movement 7), before the period of mourning from September 7, 1727; instrumental parts not fully reconstructable. Possibly, there were shared lost templates with the Pentecost cantata, see BWV 34.2, movement 1, 4–5, created in the same year. Subsequent performance on November 8, 1728 likely as a complete bridal mass for the wedding of the subsequent Zeitz Superintendent Friedrich Schultze (the author of the preface to the Schemelli hymnbook, see BWV 439–507) with Johanna Elisabeth Weiß (the daughter of Leipzig's Thomas Church pastor Christian Weiß), compare with NBA I/33 KB, page 14; the autograph revised text in movement 7 refers to the pastoral office (“Sein Dienst, so stets am Heiligtume baut”). Movement 7 was also a part, in a parodied form, of a pasticcio for a wedding in Ohrdruf 1736 (Wollny BJ 1998), see BWV 195.1

Unvollständig; nach neuesten Untersuchungen könnte diese Fassung teilweise Parodie von BWV 34.2 sein; Satz 1, 4 und 5 könnten aus BWV 34.2 übernommen worden sein (dort Satz 1, 5 und 3).
