Date of origin, Work history
1729 oder früher (nicht erhaltene Version)
Date of composition 1729 (first performance on August 29, 1729?) or earlier (version not preserved); subsequent performance around 1742 in a revised form (current version). Movement 1 may possibly and movement 4 conclusively go back to earlier, perhaps Köthen compositions (compare with BWV 1019.2/3). Movements 1, 2, and 4 were reused in BWV 120.2/6, 1 and 3, as well as in BWV 120.3/1, 2, and 4. Movement 2 serves as the parody template for BWV 232.4 II/9 (Et expecto)
relation to other works:
is exemplar of BWVBC F
is part of BWV diverse [o.Jg.]
Comment
Mainly parody of older works. Connections as follows:
mvt. 1 = BWV 120a/6 or 120b/1. mvt. 2 = BWV 120a/1 or 120b/2 or BWV 232 ("Et expecto resurrectionis"). mvt. 4 = BWV 120a/3 or 120b/4 or Sonata for violin BWV 1019a/3
